41 , out to gp , tried to deal with this and failling
hi all I need a steer or direction.......I came out to my gp around a year ago. I was told get counselling as I have kids and disruption would be bad for the family......here I am almost a year later thinking everyday about who I am, what I am and what the heck I should be doing. my wife is great and I know this will probably ruin her and the same for my kids but this aint going to go away .....I have dabbled with self medicating but stopped as its not wise and feel like im back to square one....I think some things are inevitable but im stressed out as what to do next....help

Well quite a complicated issue.
The first is what area do you live?
How old are you?
What direction are you going? MTF FTM - I assume MTF ('Male to female')
How long have you felt like this?
What did you feel like when you self-medded - did you feel better or worried you may 'develop'.
How old are yur children and what sex are they - girls can take it better than boys as a rule - older teens and gown-up kids can depend on them - some adult children are really cool these days about it.
Also wave your magic wand and what would you wish for?
Also we do have love support on Mondays here
You can join us discreetly with headphones and watch the show and ask questions in the chat - or you can join us on audio but you maybe overhead that way

im 41 m to f from wales. 2 girls one boy all under 10 , felt like this since is was 6 or 7 , magic wand would be instant woman forever! self med felt right and gave inner peace if anything......wife suspects I think and I bet my mother wouldn't be surprised judging by the number of times I was "caught" in my early years

Talk to your wife first then with the children afterwards. Your wife could be very supportive of this sort of thing, after all you are married. Once you have the support of your family, go with her to the GP to get a referral for a gender specialist (psychiatrist.)
You have already done counseling and seemed this has not really worked except for putting a few things into perspective. You can not live in denial or it will hurt you even more than the truth.
As for the young ones, they accept a lot of things these days as long as they haven't had someone teaching them hate words.
As for self-medding, most of us have done this as this transition is something that is hard to do. Most that take the meds just know that this is who they are.
|Just my opinion|
