41 , out to gp , tried to deal with this and failling

folks I have my appointment with the psychiatrist in two weeks after a GP referral.......anyone able to give me a heads up on what to expect.....is this really the beginning at long last

That first interview with a local psych is just a preliminary screening to weed out the total crazies, people with psychotic delusions etc and to check that you do seem to have some sort of Gender issue.

It's just a step They do have to go through as your GP cannot refer you directly to a GIC.
GP refers you to local psych, local psych refrs you to a GIC.
It's mild and usually quite informal so don't stress about it too much
