Skype Support Group Show Notes For Sunday 16th Oct 2011

Postby Ice Maiden » Sun Oct 16, 2011 3:45 pm

Hi thanks to all who looked in

Remember you can 'catch up' for one week here

On the agenda this week was the story here ... eet-abuse/

Presented by Icemaiden and Choe, with contributions from Emma on Skype we discussed with the chat room why this comes about?

In the build up to next month's Transgender Day of Remembrance, we discussed the issues surround street abuse, violence suffered by a contributor, and what can be done to stem the flow?

Why is a blank slate like a child one day an abuser? What happened to make them like this? Is it parents? Is it the media? Is it lack of role models?

And most importantly of all what can be done to stop it? Would more trans faces on television help? If they were what could they do? Comedy on their own terms?

This and other issues were discussed this week.

We will do a show on the 20th and have a minute's silence as that is the TDOR and we will reflect on this subject again, and visit some of those high profile stories that have shown abuse at its cruelest.

Man [...] must count no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth." - J.P.Sartre.
