Trans* is for the most part a self diagnosed condition supported by working WITH a gender specialist psychiatrist and TOGETHER you work out your best outcome. A General Practitioner usually has NO IDEA about any of this for the few who do they have no idea what torment this is causing. Remain in control and if they are obstructive they can actually be breaking the law! We were around when the first Judges Ruling made it clear that the NHS cannot refuse treatment. Doctors are humans and humans carry a lot of personal baggage, they can have religious or personal trans and homophobia which affects their decision making. The idea that a GP for example is exempt from those human feelings because they have a medical degree is untrue!

You can ask to see a different doctor or change doctors surgeries you can even write to the Regional Health Authority if things go badly but at all time remain calm and do not be abusive and be the better person. In some cases family doctors have been known to try and get their patients to be abusive so they can strike them off their lists to get rid of them so do not give them the pleasure. If they refuse to deal with you you could then take the matter to The General Medical Council!!! However they can also make you wait to see how insistent you are. For example they could mess you about then you think NAH! I am bored with this now! To them it could be a phase, a sexual hang up you may have just discovered at a party... If you are back month after month after month saying the same thing they then will have to refer you! It is a long haul but it is worth it in the end!!!
