Free QR Code Reader works great

Postby Ice Maiden » Sat Sep 29, 2012 4:08 pm

I am sure if you do not already know that QR codes are now more and more increasingly popular.

We have one right here on the page but what are they and how do you read them without smartphones?

It maybe you want to read a barcode to compare prices this will read traditional bar codes.

Or it maybe you do not have a smartphone with the app necessary to pick up the links in these fancy boxes?

Well this free little program available here in windows but this is from sourceforge open source so available in other formats too, is really kewl :)

I have tested it al all you need is a webcam - one that is on a wire that you can aim at the screen. In a split second it will beep like the supermarket and capture the data to a little black box (from there you can simply type the url out or read the info. Its free so no frills but its a fun little freebie and worth having on your PC :)

Windows

Other
http://zbar.sourceforge.net/download.html
inc iphone etc

Then try it out on this

Or on wig stores ad on this page.

I think this is only going to get more and more popular and sites like Click (BBC Iplayer) have nothing but these codes on them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01hnccr/qrcode

If you use Belon.gs (a new site for lost and found) then its very useful.

This is not a replacement for a fancy paid for app but its a good why to get your feet wet and try it out :)PXxx

But why feel left out if you use a PC?

:P

Enjoy!

And tell me how you get on - its fun!
