Re: Boy Meets Girl
This is the culmination of almost 2 years from the comedy award. I will watch the whole series first and reserve judgment and probably write a big blog on it in our blog section.
Atm it does seem a bit old fashioned and a bit of an 'ensemble piece' - it feels like this was originally a script written about a 'cougar' (older woman who is after young men) and they merely adapted it to accommodate some trans issues - quite short on laughs for a 'comedy award winning script' Fatehr Ted, Only Fools and Horses, IT Crowd, My Family, Fawlty Towers - even Gavin and Stacey where this style seems to have been influenced by have nothing to worry about here.
Too Top heavy with the likes of Denise Walsh and Janine Duvitski who kinda by simply being there and 'acting' tend to diminish Rebecca Root's abilities. It is a bit like Fringe Theatre meets Lawrence Olivier. Again maybe it'll pick up?
I think in this arena Bethany Black and Russel T Davies 'Banana' have clearly bested this by miles. Bethany was captivating and Russell's script was current (Revenge Porn) and enthralling - with a few laughs and clever cameos along the way. Boy Meets Girl so far is very lackluster. And if it were not for the fact that Rebecca Root was in it I would not bother with episode 2 - I think she has kinda rescued a script that has probably been rattling around for quite some time in another guise.

Re: Boy Meets Girl
It’s a Rom Com that unlike others of this kind in some aspects speak directly to my experiences. The relationship between ‘Judy’ and her mom is similar to that between me and my mom. When Judy’s ‘mom’ said ‘I had a daughter she just came out a little wrong’ now that is what my mom, who has watched it, said that this is what she thinks. When Judy said she met ‘the doctor from hell’ well you have to be TS to appreciate that statement and I wonder if Rebecca Root was speaking from personal experience? In fact I wonder if Iam the only one who can identify real events encapsulated in the plot.
So has Iam willing to cut it some slack and see where it goes rather than bin it on the first episode.
