I agree Christine, it's so archaic. Ah well, no doubt I'll be attempting in the (hopefully not too distant future). I will be posting here to let everyone know.

Re: Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)
Six years ago I applied to the GRC office to receive the form because I didn't have a printer to do it online. Crikey! When the form arrived in the post I was gobsmacked! There seems to be tons of paperwork. Lots and lots of forms in the form of A4 size booklets of a few pages or more to fill out.
The upshot was, I never filled it out. I just couldn't bring myself to go through all that stuff. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't. I really didn't know what to fill out etc, etc. It looked like a minefield and the thought terrified me regarding all the evidence I had to gather and it was like raking up all the past again. It just seems so humiliating to have to go through all of this.
I've been successful as a working woman for over forty years now with a partner of 25 years. I've been granted two successive full ten year passports in my female role since my GRS without any issues. I don't drive so don't have a licence. My name was changed by deed poll in 1982/3 but I've lost the document to proof that.
I had my surgery (M to F), back in 1984 at Charing Cross hospital. Thank you Mr Dalrymple. I don't even know if he's still alive. Will my records still be easily found and how on earth do I get evidence for my GRS that happened over forty years ago and does any of this cost money> Things have probably changed so much over the decades.

Re: Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)
Not sure if I'm meant to start a new thread or continue on this one as it's not been locked yet. As the application process for getting a GRC seems unnecessarily tedious and frustrating, has anybody thought of starting an online petition/campaign to ask the government to change the requirements for a GRC, or even to scrap the need for one? I know that in countries like Denmark, people can simply apply for their gender to be changed legally, without the need to dig out stuff like payslips or utility bills. What if the UK could introduce a similar system, albeit where people would be required to submit nothing but a letter confirming their diagnosis (I suppose they wouldn't open it up to people who have no intention of getting a diagnosis as they would think that a small minority of people might be too 'spontaneous' about changing their birth certificate and end up regretting it - not my opinion but unlikely that they would ever let people change their birth certificate without any kind of psych letter)?
Anyone fancy setting up an online petition explaining how the current system is creating barriers for people where they might have difficulties proving that they meet the criteria for a GRC, for instance because they underwent treatment several years ago and now struggle to get the paperwork for this, or because they've been out of work and not had bills or tenancy agreements in their name (not everyone does). And maybe add in some of the experiences mentioned in this thread (haven't read them all) to the petition text. I don't think I'm the right person to start a petition from scratch and I'm not sure how to word the petition text or what solution to propose, but I'd happily sign one if anyone else creates one.

There's a common misconception that FTMs don't have a penis. I have 3. The first one is a micro penis, the second one is inside out and the third one is not attached.
