Hey, I recently found out about GnRH antagonists and them being able to lessen or halt the effects of puberty and was thinking of asking my parents if I could start using them. They would probably say yes because most of the effects are reversible but I think that it is too late to start. I am 15 years old, my voice has already gotten deeper and my adams apple is quite visible. I have not yet grown any facial hair luckily though. Is there any point to using GnRH Antagonists at this age?
Thank you in advance.

Well this is what they are
http://library.transgenderzone.com/?page_id=2794
And of course it all depends on where you live the law of the land, the medical care available, if you have already been prescribed them and want discounted version in countries that charge the earth?
So lets go from the UK as I assume this is where you are? It is inadvisable to self prescribe this without medical supervision. Many young people do self-medicate (I have heard tales of trans*girls stealing their sisters and mother's Birth Control pills and goodness knows what else). There is no need, and there are paths backed by WPATH open to you read this section and look for adolescents
http://admin.associationsonline.com/upl ... s/soc7.gif http://admin.associationsonline.com/upl ... 20Book.pdf See: Physical Interventions for Adolescents
This is the international standards of care for you so please read it so you know your rights.
As a minor the state also has an important role here too, and there are many legal precedents that protect you and the decisions you make: see Gillick Competency - at 15 this is unlikely to be an issue though unless you have some other mental health problems that need to be assessed.

It is always wise to start as early as you can with this, and there are many many beautiful and handsome transpeople who have started at 20 yo (and depending on how you look there are many many who start much much later and still look great), so there is still time.
As you are 15 you will need a referral to the Tavistock Clinic here are the details for your GP. http://marketplace.transgenderzone.com/?page_id=79 See: Under1 18.
Other than that, and speaking to your GP asap and asking for this referral, there is not a lot more you can do other than perhaps transition and begin to experiment to see if it is something you are certain about. Start at home and speak to family and although it may be shocking at first there is a lot of support out there, for parents they can contact Mermaids here: http://www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/
Keep us posted and try not to worry too much. Most trans* have been exactly where you are and feel that clock ticking. But unlike 'the old days' there are services available to you now.
Hope this helps

Re: Too Late for GnRH Antagonists?
Thanks. I have told my parents about being transgender and my dad is fine with it but my mother I am not too sure about, she sometimes randomly brings it up and tries to make me think that transitioning is bad and starts yelling at me about it like I would not be the same person. My mum can also be supportive every now and then (usually when she isn't drinking which is rare). They said I could not transition until I am older but I live in Australia and the minimum age for HRT and everything else is 16 I think. I am 100% certain that I am transgender I have felt this way for almost 2 years.
Thanks you again, you have been really helpful.
