UK Television Transgender Monthly Round up June 2012

Postby Ice Maiden » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:47 pm

So here we go again, what is broadcast in the UK reflects on you as a transperson. Every month it is a case of spot the positives. Almost all television featuring anything remotely associated with transpeople is negative, comical or are negative stereotypes.

High Points
Grayson Perry on Channel 4 and BBC Radio 4, Luke Anderson in Big Brother

Low points are quite simple.
The rid'dic'ulous spectacle of Mia (the transgender assasin in Sky Atlantic's Hit & Miss) hitting her prosthetic penis in the mirror saying, "I'm a real boy!" With an identical rubber penis (probably a spare?) ;) on elastic over her nose (like a false nose) wobbling about! It was at that point the series turned into a bit of a laughing stock - what were they thinking?. We discussed this in our virtual support group and to be fair we just found it hilarious and at the same time disappointing. It is clearly now a comedy.

Cartman's Mom Is Still a Dirty S****
04/06
Ch 21 (Freeview) Viva

The episode where he discovers his mom is intersex - and upon discovery all the men projectile vomit. This was in part to blame (along with 'Ace Ventura Pet Detective' (see the end scene)) this 'trend' on other shows followed - it is an extreme transphobic reaction (used for humour) over trans issues, Family Guy and the Cleveland Show to name but two. A case of if you hit someone enough with a blunt object eventually it will be funny!

All In The Best Possible Taste With Grayson Perry S01E01
05/06

Working Class Sunderland

Grayson Perry begins his investigation of British taste in Sunderland, a city with strong working-class traditions. Originally from a working-class background himself, Perry is interested in how our family background and the class journey we take shape the way we define ourselves through what we wear and buy, and how we live.

Perry discovers a culture of flamboyant display in Sunderland, as well as some surprising 'ancestral echoes' of his own upbringing. He also confronts head-on the snobbery that surrounds many people's view of working-class taste.

Finally, Perry invites all the people he meets in Sunderland down to London for an unveiling of the artwork inspired by his experiences in their city, prompting a fascinating debate about what he has chosen to reflect back to them about their taste
.
SERIES SYNOPSIS

Grayson Perry has always been fascinated by taste: why people buy the things they do and wear the things they wear, and what they are trying to say about themselves when they make those choices. Grayson goes on safari through the taste tribes of Britain, not just to observe our taste, but to tell us in an artwork what it means.

The work Grayson creates is a series of six imposing tapestries called 'The Vanity of Small Differences', his personal but panoramic take on the taste of 21st-century Britain. In each episode, he embeds himself with people from across the social spectrum in a bid to get to grips with our differing takes on taste.

Grayson gets dolled up with a Geordie make-over, spray-tan and little blue dress and big hair - everyone liked her and it was fun to watch, it seemed less good as he went 'up' the class structure sadly.

Cardinal Burns
05/06
E4

More crossdressing for laughs and 'light racism' (mocking a Japanese female) from the comic pair.

E4 are looking increasingly tired in this dept.

When we compare Channel 5 at the same time, where they are having laughs 'with' the transgender community rather than at their expense (Big Brother's Bit on the Side), Channel 4's effort is tired old 1970s hasbeen (and gone) crossdressing comedy needs a rethink!

---

Britain Unzipped
06/06
BBC Three

Greg James and Russell Kane look at British behaviour and reveal what really goes on behind closed doors.

Greg dresses as Britney Spears and does 'Hit me Baby one more time'.

Why did he do it(?) - well for a laugh at a man crossdressed of course - is there any other reason on the BBC?

Like Channel 4, The BBC remains in the 1970s where 'crossdressing is funny' and ignores an entire community being held back by these portrayals. If you want to be funny tell us something about your own life and make it funny.

He wouldn't black up and dance to bongo drums - I do not see the difference - both have cultural roots in the UK and that was 'funny' once upon a time to the Briish (in the 70s and 80s and still so on the football terraces it seems). The BBC should be leading the way, instead they hire these uninventive university graduates who simply do not have a clue.

Again if you want something fresh HIRE a transperson - they can laugh at themselves and their own experiences as is their right, everyone's a winner!

Bob's Burgers
Dr Yap
06/06
E4

"Mine is called drag Lisa the androgynous snowman, he-she is from Thailand!"

Bob's Burgers is a kinda 'nice idea' but every time they involve transpeople they make too much of the stereotypes, pandering to non-transpeople results in transphobia - the last time was 3 transwomen in his cab who were hookers, junkies ('crack whores') and there was zooming in on stubble and adam's apples and hands etc. It is a bit like every time a black person was in a cartoon they had a bone through their nose in the early days of cinema - and those jokes lasted until the late 70s!!!

So why can't broadcasters learn?

History repeats itself.

---

The Cleveland Show
06/06
E4

Animated spin-off comedy from the makers of Family Guy. Roberta gives Cleveland Junior a Makeover, and his stylish new look catches the attention of a young lesbian who mistakes him for a woman (Butch).

It was clear there was some 'room' here for a dig at the transgender FTM community and it took a while to arrive.

"Hey, I'm the one who thought you were a lesbian because you look exactly like a black Chaz Bono!"

Mild and OK I guess(?) as it does not make too much of the issue, as we know who he is then it's fine.

The problem comes when we actually break it down, She is a Lesbian and assumes he is a woman, I assume Chaz Bono is a straight male who happens to have a vagina - thats' a BIG difference, It therefore suggests that Chaz Bono is basically a lesbian (a woman) and does not accept his male identity at all.

So by definition - Transphobic.

If these script writers ran it past me first I'd help them reword it - but they clearly know best :)

My advice would be to have actually invited Chaz Bono as a voice over for the cartoon paid him and had him on-board with the actual storyboard all they had to do is ask Cleveland Jr to change his voice so people didn't recognise him and used Chaz for that one episode. They have done guest cameos many many times in the past with celebrities. At least then it would have worked better.

But hey whada I know?

Come Dine with Me
07/06
Channel 4

Cookery-based reality competition. In South Devon, the hosts are party girl Frankie Tolliday, rock chick Tara Mulholland, dandy artist Simon Drew and football fanatic Peter Pyne, who has a surprise in store.

And they were not kidding.

On Peter's night he crossdresses, nothing wrong with that that's great and well done for having this on the show.

But Peter turns into a sleazy monster, who is leching all over Simon in what was the most hideous and embarrassing way, this in reality could be classified as sexual assault. If this were Simon carrying on like this with a female guest - well its obvious there would be a legal case and the Police involved. Put it like this, he does not 'know' these people, if hir were to jump out of the bushes in the park and do the same thing he would be banged up!

If that were not enough Patricia (Peter's alter-ego) went about opening her legs putting her bottom in Simon's face, and talking about herself in a sexual way.

I did feel sorry for Simon who remained a gentleman and dignified throughout - how(?), I'll never know. But good on him.

If Peter is serious and this is not a wind-up with his mates or a bet then she seriously let the community down there, she had an opportunity to show the transcommunity as a dignified and 'normal' group of people who are like everyone else. This tacky performance was just excruciating to watch and after a few minutes I just wanted her night to be over too.

I am not a prude, when it comes to nudity, sexuality, sex and even surgery images, this is in context, they are educational tools, on specialist sites that are peoples own lived experiences and features their own words and images.

This was about abusing a guest, who along with the other guests just felt uncomfortable and embarrassed for themselves as much as the spectacle before them - they clearly had an ethical dilemma not wanting to appear transphobic yet putting up with this abuse. I am for once not blaming Channel 4 or it's makers who must have relished this footage. But Patricia may get away with it in a club or her peer group, or even the missus, but when this is on national television she needs to realise this damages a community struggling to be taken seriously. It also reinforces the argument of what a transperson is and the stand-up comics then mock and emulate this as 'normal' for the trans community - "well thats how transpeople are(!) - just look!"

Very annoying, however, the production company still does have a responsibility at the casting stage for this. So their hands are a little tarnished - sorry!

To quote Simon after the dinner,
"It just made me cringe - It just made me want to be somewhere else!"
"The moment 'he' reverted to Pete (voice and mannerisms) (whilst still 'dressed') and made an explanation about as to why 'he' did it - it was fine!"
And in the cab ride home he commented - "A difficult end to a difficult evening!"

The girls thought he was 'funny' but then he was not 'touching them up'!

Transpeple do have a responsibility I feel when they appear on television to not let the community down. If transpeople were plentiful in the media and everywhere as other communities are - like the Black community of course, then fine(!) one odd display like this is up to them, as long as the person is consensual - Simon wasn't. But the trans community is not plentiful in the media, one odd appearance here and there is not enough. So when there is an opportunity - to then see this well...?

Although what she wore plays into the hands of the bigots 'told you so' arguments. Had she dressed like the other female guests and behaved with some self-respect she could have really helped here. Instead it was seen as a big joke.

When compared to the dignified way Luke on Big Brother dealt with this same issue - it's just night and day!

Snog Marry Avoid?
'Cardiff'
07/06
BBC Three

Again with the 'not wishing to look as bad as a 'tranny'' although this time said without saying it.

They show the girl to the public.

Public - "I would avoid her because she looks like Pete Burns!"
Girl - "Pete Burns?"
They flash up his photo, "Oh my God!"

Nuff said.

What is it with this show and mocking effeminate men and transwomen(?), It is supposed to make women feel better about themselves - WHAT ABOUT TRANSWOMEN - the BBC are just useless!

(more on that later).

The BBC do nothing for our community, and are supposed to be a public broadcaster - their BBC3 channel is a hotbed of transphobia and shameful!

Bizarre Animal ER
Really
08/06

'Sex-change Cat'

A cat undergoes penectomy as stones are blocking it's urethra.

A successful outcome.

"But how does Mrs Caroll feel about her new pussycat."
"He's gone in a man and come out a woman, and if he's healthy afterwards, that's fine."
" I don't mind."
"It's lucky I called him Charlie as it goes for both a boy and a girl, so it was probably fate that this was supposed to happen.
Voice Over - "A job well done! It's been a transgender triumph for tabby's everywhere!"

Isn't it amazing that we have more trans dignity in a voice over about a cat from the production company (All3Media/Maverick/BBC (Original Air date 26/06/2009) than we do from the BBC's 'human' programmes on BBC Three.

Lorraine
08/06
ITV1

Ross King interviews Donny and Marie Osmond

"But there are some dresses somewhere - not that I am going to try any of them on!" They laugh.

Again why say it? Why not say - "We are going to take a look at your dresses..."

It is is underlying Implicit transphobia that is EVERYWHERE and I just cannot see society changing for a hundred years!

After all why is it so bad to try on a dress anyway? If it is serious and not taking the p*ss like Walliams and Carr of course.

Which we come to next...

---

Alan Carr's Summertime Specstacular
08/06
Channel 4

One of the cheapest, low-brow shows I have seen on Channel 4 in a long time.

Worthy of Youtube, this is what we have come to expect in 2012 from Channel 4 - how the mighty have fallen.

Apart from the fact that they had to film this inside cos of the rain - well allowances can be made, but it is a far cry from it's 1980s namesake. Those were the days eh?

Bussing in the same old faces we see every day, from Carol Vorderman, David Walliams - again - this is like the flipping Masons! They all keep each other in work. From THE FACE OF Greggs Bakery Paddy McGuinness (he has to mention them I think - it must be in his contract? What ever happened to 'undue prominance?'
http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadc ... prominence
And Russell Brand was on Skype! No expense spared. Our group can do it better than that :) Join us on a Monday night to find out how here at http://media.transgenderzone.com

The whole show seemed to be held together by a rather lost looking Justin Bieber who they saved till the end - I think he would have left else :). Then we see the , 'Embarrassing Bodies', doctor come in for a sketch, take away the canned laughter and it was just uncomfortable to the point of embarrassing (wooden acting union beware! last time he did that was prolly at Uni footlights) - when Alan dressed as Pippa Middleton.

But we then had to 'endure Alan Carr's crossdressing grotesques' and amongst them was Margaret Thatcher, where he used the term the 'Iron Ladyboy' - AND THERE IT IS! - He made Walliams wear a wig and then reused the gaga again - the Iron 'Lazy-Boy' this time...

THIS GAG has already been done in January by a number of comics! So it's not even a current new gag - what is the point(?), he went to all that trouble just to say 'that word!'

Again it is Channel 4! What is wrong with them lately? First it was Paul Chowdhry on 'Stand-up for the week', yesterday in an episode of Come Dine with Me, a transvestite (who dressed for one dinner and was out of control, very tacky - 'he' said he did it once a month - I wondered if it was a wind-up), nevertheless he was described as a 'tranny' by one of the guests, the crossdresser didn't use that term once!

They sure did love the press http://www.channel4.com/info/press/news ... erstanding but seem to have not followed up on their promises.

But then they didn't expect us to be watching them to see if they have changed.

So whats that? Transgender women have been systematically described as blokes, geezers, trannies and ladyboys!

How does the document go again?

Avoid the use of language which is widely considered to be offensive to transgender people.

• Avoid gratuitous descriptions, comments and references that subject transgender people to ridicule.

• Avoid sensationalist reference to transgender persons or issues, especially where their gender history has no direct bearing on the subject of a media item.

• Avoid references to the medical histories of transgender persons except where they are directly relevant to the subject of a media item.

• Avoid using pronouns and gendered descriptors that conflict with the personal identities of individual transgender people.

• In accordance with the Gender Recognition Act, avoid revealing the previous names of transsexual persons except where explicit permission is given to do so.

FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, AND FAIL!

Big Momma's House
08/06
Channel 4

Channel 4 show this crossdressing comedy.

An under cover cop has to take the identity of a large mother figure to stay on the trail of a violent bank robber who has escaped from prison.

Its yet another showing of this 'prosthetic' comedy that was used in Mrs Doubtfire. I seriously think Channel 4 assume this is what passes as something for the transgender community's 'quota' - Note to C4 Try an actual transgender person in something and that may help!

Alan Carr's Summertime Specstacular
09/06
Channel 4

Repeat of the previous farce, that included transphobic comedy including negative sterotypes, David Walliams [Groan], and Embarrassing Bodies Dr Christian Jessen complicit in (a very wooden acted) mocking of gynecomastia, Alan with fake latex breasts on, squeezing them and generally bringing it beyond the gutter - the only thing saving it was the canned laughter.

What was he thinking agreeing to take part in that? This same doctor that referred Jenny Anne (FFS and Breat augmentation) on the show.

I experienced bullying in my teens because of gynocomastia (I always wore a T-shirt and swimming was a nightmare) and I know there are many in a similar position who must despair at this abuse.

It drew to a close one of the most transphobic spectacles I have seen on Channel 4 in quite some time.

When they reach for the frock its usually all over as far as originality is concerned - this just proves it.

And Walliams with is hairy chest dancing about showing his knickers - I give up!

Big Brother's Bit on the Side
11/06
Channel 5

One of two (apparently crossdresser) mouthy studio audience members use language Emma must applogise for.

This is a bit of a shame when Luke is doing such a dignified job in the house - we don't really need this outside.

Exhibitionists seem to 'flock' to this show, but when it is on Channel 5 they have to be a little more careful than when it is tucked away in the 'digital channels' I think.

That said, it was harmless and about a sexual act being performed. It got a laugh but this is probably not the time and the place for it really?

But still - unnecessary.

All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry

12/06

The first in a trans double bill tonight on Channel 4.

That old saying where we wait 4 hours for a bus then two come along at once springs to mind.

More crossdressing for laughs.

I think these guys have some very good characters but the two 'interns' are not two of them, one is also a little uncomfortably racist - pretending to be Japanese. 'Go on do the voice...' When Jim Davidson did that there was real trouble! But it seems in this case it's fine - I am confused. Is it OK to 'do' Japanese but not Jamaican?

That said, the other characters, eccentric middle class white men - they work as an act. Stick to what you know! ;)

Killers Behind Bars- The Untold Story
Channel 5
12/06

The Suffolk Strangler. Series looking at some of Britain's most notorious, incarcerated killers. Professor David Wilson focuses on Steve Wright.

There is little doubting the credentials of this man.

But when he went back to his postgraduate PHD group some of whom were police officers at the university where he is teaching them criminology there was a distinct transphobic air in what some officers were saying.

Steve Wright may well be a crossdresser and be a serial killer, he may well have killed these other women that have not been proved in the area in the past.

But like anybody else' crossdressers can have asthma, they can have one leg, they can be murderers. Crossdressers are just 'people' after all.

Here is what was said let's see if you agree with me?

First let's start with the father of one of the girls who had died but as yet no one has admitted to her crime.

"She said she got into a car with a crossdresser."
Sinister music plays - "So this is a man who liked to dress up as a woman?"
"We thought it was an associate - never in our minds did we think it was a client."

Image (Image: Popkorn/Channel 5).

"Steve Wright used to crossdress!!!..."

Later Classroom

"Michelle was picked up by a man who wore women's clothes!"
"And that to me just seemed to shout Steve Wright!"
"What does that say to you?!"
Female Student - "I think this was a way to gain the trust and less threatening."

Image (Image: Popkorn/Channel 5).

Male student - "Or it could have been a reflection of how deranged, confused and messed up he was!"
Professor - "That's fine, that's fair enough, we do not need to know why he was engaging in that behaviour!""Rather how unique is that behaviour in a small red light area?!"

So it was a little disturbing that a PHD student was agreed with when he used in global terms:

"Or it could have been a reflection of how deranged, confused and messed up he was!"

Suggesting that aside from the killing, crossdressing is deranged, confused and messed up!

Not good!

He laboured the crossdressing over and over in his summing up.

Of course this brings in the alarmist view from films such as 'The Silence of the Lambs' (1991) and Dressed to Kill (1980).

It may well have been simply a disguise so he could carry out these crimes. But it in itself - the act of crossdressing is not 'deranged' and 'messed up'!

This programme sent out messages the transgender community does not need. This in itself in some way justifying being suspicious of people who crossdress and that they may in some way be dangerous to the public is idiotic.

I suspect were Steve Wright Black these terms in the context of ethnicity would not be used.

This is the same production company that gave us 'Ria: Diary of a Teen Transsexual' for Channel 4.

They are kinda stuck as to how to have changed what the professor says - after all he is the 'expert'.

But I think that student comment should have been edited out without any harm to the programme, and demonstrates an element of institutional transphobia in criminology!

Features Stephen Whittle commenting on trans issues at that time before the 'Gender Recognition Act 2004' came into effect.

Trouble is Corrie have been riding this trans gravy-train too long now and have got lazy, Hayley should have to sing for her supper, rather than increasing becoming 'street furniture' with little or nothing of value to say.

Big Brother UK 2012

Big Brother's Bit On The Side - Rodrigo / Rebekah Shelton
Channel 5
14/06

This was an interesting episode and a bit of a surprise.

Any regular fans of Big Brother will be aware of Rodrigo his gay antics and regular appearances on Big Brothers since his

first appearance as a housemate.

I felt he was one of those faces that you could not help feeling was pretty.

Well last night Rodrigo appeared as Rebekah for the first time on air.

And I must admit I was justified in thinking the way I did - she looked great :)

More on this here.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... bekah.html

What I particularly liked was the way Emma dealt with it. "We have a real exclusive, for the first time ever on British Television it's Rebekah Shelton everyone!"

And The audience whooped and she embraced Emma and gave a slinky walk, they commented on her great legs and that was that - they just moved on and this was brilliant. From the moment she sat down the issue was history!

Emma her team and Endemol were well deserved getting their awards last year and this just proves it!

Snog Marry Avoid?
15/06
Channel Really (Freeview 20) original air date 16/03/2009 BBC Three).

The Cheeky girls are told by Pod that, "with all that slap (makeup) they look like trannies!"

The problem here is that the BBC who sold it to them so are still responsible, and they are still running it unedited. They can edit these things as they did it with Russell Howard's 'Ladyboy' Airline sketch. That's not been seen since they agreed to edit it out, otherwise we'd be seeing that on Dave forever too!

Not good enough! The BBC are dumping and offloading their transphobic material on these digital channels hoping no one will notice - sorry it doesn't work like that. If the BBC are cashing in then they must take responsibility for it.

Sticking their name on 'Trans Media Action' is an insult and a bit of an insincere joke whilst this continues!

Oh the BBC 'talk the talk' - but that's where it ends!

Nice to see him squirm for once - am I bad? [yesss] :shrugs:

The Simpsons
'Marge in Chains'
16/06
Channel 4

Marge is jailed when she is convicted of stealing a bottle of bourbon from Apu's convenience store.

Mayor Quimby - "Let the word go forth from this place that Marge Simpson is a shoplifter!"
"In other news the chick in 'The Crying Game' is really a man!"
Audiance - Oewwwwhhh!!!

Why say it at all? Why script it at all? It makes no sense to the plot it is gratuitous and unnecessary.

The Simpsons is a very transphobic cartoon series - there are many, many examples in our archives from this show, and these old repeats need to be pulled off the air play lists. Channel 4 have been told in a report with TMW about this and have read an entire year from these logs - time will tell if they will take any notice.

Mrs Brown's Boys
'The Mammy'

He turns to camera crossdressed and says - "Its a f@cking man in a dress!" and gets a laugh.

Kinda sums up the whole series of this archaic sitcom.

Tim Healy's Les/Lesley transvestite dances on stage pretending to be Lady Gaga, 'Pokerface' - lots of upskirt shots an 'bafoonary'.

Family Guy
'Thanksgiving'
17/06
BBC THREE

Lois cooks a Thanksgiving meal and invites the crew over for dinner. Joe is shocked when his formerly MIA son returns from Iraq and Quagmires father now transsexual parent also takes part.

We know now from this episode last series viewtopic.php?f=16&t=388 That although suffers from man many problems, this cartoon has got a transsexual character.

There are no sacred cows in Family Guy, they even made a joke about dead soldiers in Iraq!

On the one hand there is a transsexual character, she is passable, she is not as abused as Peters daughter Meg, she has returned from a past episode - rare. It is visibility even if it is at the cost of humiliation.
On the other hand, they have cast a trans chracter because they can then abuse them to their face. It also suggests they are running out of ideas. This usually happens when transpeople turn up - Sky's Hit & Miss' proves that.

The trans character is objectified in lets face it quite sickening ways - her only value it seems as a punchbag.

"So how are things dad?"

Image

"Oh Glen I can't tell you how wonderful it is to be back here! This is going to be a really special Thanksgiving!"
"Oh Chicken Wings!"
"Oh my I hope they are the ones with the 'bone' removed!"

Image

Brian the dog - "Hello Ida!"

Image

"Hello Brian."

Image

Stewie the Baby - "He threw up went he found out you were a monster!"
Ida is an ex-service person - and when asked later if she agrees with concious objectors going AWOL and disagrees with Brian she is called 'Ok well that's just some dumb Drag Queen'.
Later...

Image

"Oh my, maybe it's time for us girls to hit the powder room?!"
Lois [scornfully] - "You may use the yard!"

All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry
Channel 4
19/06

The final part in his series on the British taste and how it changes with class.

'Claire' takes back seat with the upper-class - why was this she appeared in the other two shows?

It's a shame I think she could have gone 'all posh' - never mind - just odd though as she appeared in the other two previously.

50 Greatest Plastic Surgery...Shockers:
20/06
E4+1

A countdown of the most eye-watering, freaky plastic surgery from around the world. Featuring Jackie Stallone, Pete Burns, Cindy Jackson, Jodie Marsh and Lizard Man. [S]

Pete Burns came second out of 50! Although as he took part, so was part of it, I still think he is number 2 is in part because of the feminisation - but a bit harsh and ever so slightly transphobic?!

Hollywood is full of women who look far worse.

Pick TV

Cartoon comedy set in the 31st century. It's the 3004 Olympics, and there's all kinds of cheating going on. Bender is so determined to win gold that he happily has a 'sex change' [SIC].

Probably the least offensive offering from the 'house of the Simpsons', and duly noted as such in last years television awards.

Family Guy
'Thanksgiving'
23/06
BBC Three

Repeat of the episode above where Glen Quagmire's dad (now a woman) visits for the Seasonal US Holiday of Thanksgiving.

Mrs Brown's Boys
2/6. 'Mammy's Secret'
23/06
BBC ONE

Tired Comedy series about a loud-mouthed Irish matriarch.

Agnes becomes concerned that her family are keeping secrets from her. Contains strong language.

Crossdressing for laughs, this show just belongs in the 1970s.

'Blacking up' was 'funny' (for many) then too!

But it is time they dropped crossdressing for laughs (and I do not care how 'traditional' it is), if they want a 'funny man in a dress' then hire a transperson who does not mind doing it or being labeled as that.

Crossdressing only mocks one group, I do not buy 'female impersonator' because if everyone knows it is not a biological female, then the joke is on the crossdressing and who crossdresses?

The BBC are holding the trans community back they are showing no 'vision' and clearly are out of touch.

Simple - if you want to make transgender related gags hire a transperson to do them or be there in the ensemble to be part of them, otherwise its abuse. Transpeople are being laughed at not laughed with.

---

Keeping Up with the Kardashians

Kloe' Kardashian is distressed by an internet website she finds that calls her a 'tranny'.

Why? What is wrong with that? Thats the 'deep' question she needs to answer!

---

Benidorm
24/06
ITV2

More of Tim Healey's Les/Lesley transvestite character in this comedy series.

Not a big fan of his role unfortunately - could have been rescued by using an actual transperson - a newcomer.

---

Snog Marry Avoid
'Newcastle'
25/06
BBC Three

Not sure about this episode.

They give a transwoman a make-over to be a man because that will give her a better chance of employment?

Suffice it to say she was back to her old self the next day!

---

Holby City
26/06
BBC ONE

This is not actually trans rather it featured Victoris Atkin in a major TV role since leaving Jason (FTM) Costello behind in Channel 4/E4's Hollyoaks.

She played a laddish woman who was in Afghanistan, her speech was affected by the surgery and she went from being a cockney to Scottish accent.

Unusual :!: [yesss] :shrugs: :wtf: :D and does display some talent from the young actress to adapt.

Hit & Miss

Sky Atlantic

Scrambled but the listing isn't.

---

Little Britain
'Emily and Florence go to the ballet'
29/06
BBC Three

Nuff said. The rise and rise of David Walliams due to the 'X Factor' TV Show has meant that there is renewed interest in this series and crossdressing shenanigans. TBH it is now showing it's age - it was dated when they did it first time around.

---

Snog Marry Avoid
29/06
BBC Three

Repeat of the earlier episode in Newcastle where to improve the chances of a transwoman they dress her like a man for job interviews - suffice it to say it didn't last long.
---

2 Broke Girls
28/06
E4

Not a bad comedy this and kinda works.

They have a horse and to keep it warm in the back yard they put their coat and a female hat on it.

Trouble is they then may trans jokes about the horse from

J. Edgar Hoover (Hoofer), to having gender identity problems.

You can read up on J.Edgar here http://www.transgenderzone.com/features ... hoover.htm

All the trans gags were simply shoe-horned in to humiliate.

---

Mrs Brown's Boys
'3/6. Mammy's Merchandise'
30/06
BBC ONE

Comedy series. With the wedding looming, the Brown household is in crisis, as Dermot and Agnes disagree over his best man. Contains some strong language. Also in HD. [S]

---

Family Guy
29/06

Another airing of the episode dream sequence where the town pedophile dresses as a woman and lives with Chris.

Its bad enough he is a sex-pest but why does he have to crss-dress?

Negative associations all leave their mark.
