I could certainly identify with much of what you've written from my own GD days.

What I would recommend; and you'd probably need to leave the house to do it, is a few sessions with a good counsellor to help you sort out your thoughts and feelings.

I agree with Steffi.

Your story strikes lots of chords with me too but don't completely discount a male therapist - I had one and he was terrific. If they know their stuff that's what matters and a good one will help you identify the problems whatever one else says.

I did but it was several years ago now. Most people have a policy for name changes - a lot of women still do it on marriage so it's not a difficulty. It sounds like you're doing most of the right things already. Be supportive, listen and don't judge. Always be there for him if and when he needs you.

You may also want to get in touch with Mermaids: http://www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/ (I'm guessing he's under 16) who will be extremely helpful.
